Do you know if the fibre cable you are using complies with the CPR Standard?
The CPR (Construction Product Regulation) is a regulation issued by the European Union with the purpose of regulating the limits of fire resistance and hazardous substances in materials used in construction.
What is CPR in cables?
This regulation applies to all products intended to be permanently incorporated into construction. As far as cables are concerned, the CPR provisions apply to energy, telecommunications, data and control.
The purpose of the CPR is to ensure that all cables used in permanent installations throughout the European Union are assessed, classified and approved under a single criterion.
A new classification
The CPR provides for six new classes, designated A to F, where A implies the highest level of reaction, being the non-combustible product and F the lowest level of reaction, which does not even exceed flame spread. From this new classification, B, C, D and E will be the classes mainly used for cables.
In addition, there are supplementary criteria that set requirements on the amount of fumes emitted, the release of flaming droplets and particles during combustion, and the acid content or toxicity of the fumes emitted.
CPR implementation
The official implementation of the CPR came into force in 2016. Since then, cables must be checked to ensure that they are correctly identified, both on the sheath and on the identification label, and that the supplier has the corresponding DoP (Declaration of Performance) for the cable. The CE marking on the product declares compliance with all applicable directives.
The DoP (Declaration of Performance) is a document issued by the manufacturer itself in which all relevant information is stated: manufacturer, cable identification, evaluation system used, applicable standard, certifying body and CPR performance of the product. This standardised DoP allows you to easily compare products with each other, choosing the right cable for each type of installation.
When you choose KeyFibre, you are guaranteed to purchase cables that fully comply with the requirements set out in the new CPR standard, here is an example of a label belonging to one of our Dca cables.
