Characteristics and types of optical enclosures in fibre optic networks

In the communication industry, the optical box or fibre optic splice box is often an indispensable piece of equipment in the cabling process. Typically, fibre optic cables are used when wiring the outdoor network, while the indoor network cable is twisted pair. Because the two cannot be connected directly, fibre optic terminal boxes must be used to branch the fibre optic cable and connect it to the indoor circuit.

What is a fibre optic splice box?

Fibre optic terminal boxes are boxes that are responsible for protecting the fibre optic cable, as well as soldering the fibre optic pigtail onto the cable terminal. It is mainly used to join indoor and outdoor fibre optic cable; and it is done by soldering or branch splicing. In addition, it can split a fibre optic cable into a fibre, similar to a connector, to play the role of connecting cable. When a fibre optic cable arrives at the subscriber’s end, it is fixed in the terminal box, and the fibre cores and fibre optic cables are soldered in the terminal box.

Nowadays, fibre optic terminal boxes are widely used in cable telephone network systems, broadband network systems, cable television systems, etc. They are also used for interception and interception of fibre optic cables. They are also used for interception and direct interception of internal fibre optics. They are usually made of cold-rolled sheet steel and electrostatic spraying.

VARIOUS TYPES OF OPTICAL BOXES

Fibre optic junction boxes can be divided into different types according to different criteria. For example, depending on the method of connecting the fibre optic cable, they can be divided into straight and branched types. A straight junction box has only one outer hole for the receiving line connection, while a branched junction box has several outer holes for the receiving lines, which can be distinguished according to the number of holes. Furthermore, depending on the material, it can be divided into a metal-clad junction box and a plastic-clad junction box. According to the number of fused optical fibres, it can be divided into 2 to 8 outlets, 4 to 12 outlets, 4 to 24 outlets and so on. And according to the style, it can be divided into wall mounting type, drawer type, bracket type, table type, etc. Table type and other types. Different types of fiber optic terminal blocks are used in different fields and for different needs, so you can choose according to your needs.

FUNCTIONS OF THE OPTICAL TERMINAL BLOCK

The function of the optical terminal block is to provide fibre splicing, fibre pigtail splicing and cable routing. It also provides mechanical and environmental protection to the fibres and their components, and allows for proper inspection to maintain the highest levels of fibre management. A good fibre optic enclosure should have the following features:

  • Clamping function. Once the fibre optic cable enters the distribution box, its outer jacket and reinforcement core must be mechanically fastened, grounding conductor protection components must be installed, termination protection must be fitted, and the fibre must be bundled and protected.
  • Splicing function. After removing the optical fibres from the optical cable and splicing them to the optical breakout cable, the excess optical fibres are bundled and stored, and the splice is protected.
  • The connector attached to the pigtail cable is inserted into the adapter to make an optical connection to the optical connector at the other end of the adapter. The adapter and connector must be flexible for insertion and removal; the optical path can be freely deployed and tested.
  • Storage function. Provide storage space for the various fibre optic cables that cross between the racks so that they can be placed in a regular and orderly fashion. Adequate space and means must be provided in the fibre optic end cabinet to ensure that this part of the fibre optic cable splice is well routed, easily adjustable and meets minimum bend radius requirements.

At KeyFibre we offer different types of optical enclosures with the following features:

  • Fully enclosed structure, good dust-proof and moisture-proof performance.
  • Suitable for indoor wall and table mounting.
  • Anti-theft locking mechanism to effectively protect and manage fiber optic cables.
  • Made of high quality plastic. With standard size, light weight and easy.
