FTTH networks<\/a> are those fibre optic connections that go directly to any user’s residence. Instead of being networks that reach nearby connection points, such as an antenna or a node, they reach directly inside the building and thus make the speed higher.<\/p>\n

In previous articles we have already talked about how FTTH networks are a type of FTTx, i.e. Fiber to the X, which means fibre reaching predetermined connection points. In this case, the predetermined point is Home, the house.<\/p>\n

Nowadays, many telephone companies are opting to use FTTH networks to bring fibre to their customers. The speed increases enormously if the connection reaches such a close point, and with it the quality of the internet obviously improves.<\/p>\n

However, FTTH networks<\/a> also have their downsides, such as the fact that installation becomes somewhat more complex. In addition, the whole process is also more expensive. One of the truisms that come up about FTTH network connections is how the speed and quality of the connection to people’s residences increases. So it is possible that the question that arises in this regard is why this type of connection is not always installed, since it is of very good quality.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>

There are more and more residences where telephone operators are installing FTTH networks. However, these are almost always newly built residences. The reason for this is that FTTH networks cannot take advantage of the previous installation. They require new sets of cables to be laid, with the older ones having to be discarded. This increases the cost, and also the complexity of the installation.<\/p>\n

As in many homes there was already a previous installation to bring the internet, some telephone companies prefer to take advantage of that previous set of cables, and use another type of fibre optic network.<\/p>\n

For example, in older homes it is very common to see FTTC networks, which are networks down to the curb. This is by means of a kind of a little box that is placed on the pavement, near the curb, right in front of a certain building. The rest of the connection from the curb to the house itself is done by copper cable that brings the connection from the curb to the end users.<\/p>\n

HOW EXACTLY DOES THE FTTH CONNECTION WORK?<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/section>

The basic operation of the FTTH connection is really simple: the fibre optic cable comes out of a central office. This is then connected to a so-called fibre hub (FDH). This in turn connects to another element called a network access point (NAP). Finally, this network access point arrives directly at the residence via a junction box, which is often called a terminal rosette.<\/p>\n
